You can imagine my surprise when I came upon this post!
Hopefully, I’ll have him up there again this year come fall.
Looks like you “nailed” some beautiful shots too with a little help from him 🙂
    Really enjoying your website Sparky!

    Best,

    Robert Visconti – Lindenhurst, IL

Hi Robert, Glad you found the post!
We’ll have to shoot again up there this coming fall. My plastic owl “Earl” is itching to attract some more Gos! Feel free to email me at sparkystensaas@hotmail.com if your ever coming north. I’m often up at the Sax-Zim Bog in winter too.

Spring break? Minus-40 wind chill… I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere! No beaches, no bikinis no beer or bars anywhere in sight :-) Key West, Minnesota, January 2023 (birding NW MN ….video coming soon) #keywestmn #springbreakminnesota #sparkystensaas
Always worth the walk to the end of Gray Jay Way in Sax-Zim Bog! Stay long enough and something interesting will show up...Boreal Chickadee? Canada Jay? Ermine? But yesterday this SNOWSHOE HARE stole the show. The only sunflower-seed-eating hare I know :) [Canon EOS R5
“Hey, you, get off of my cactus” Pyrrhuloxia and Cardinal battle for access to the bark butter! Laguna Seca Ranch, Bulldog Blind, South Texas; January 2023 [Canon EOS R5 with Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM at 500mm; f/7.1 at 1/3200 second; ISO 1600; fill-flash with MagMod fresnel lens flash extender] #pyrrhuloxia #birdbattle #birdfight #northerncardinal #cardinal #texasbirds #texasbirding #lagunaseca #lagunasecaranch #texaswildlife #sparkystensaas #thephotonaturalist #sparkyphotos
Hard place to make a living? Not for the Crested Caracara, who eat almost anything, dead or alive…snakes, birds, mammals, insects, carrion, chicken skins. Laguna Seca Ranch, Texas; January 2023 [Canon EOS R5 with Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM at 500mm; f/7.1 at 1/1600 second; ISO 1600; desaturated in Lightroom] #crestedcaracara #raptorsoftexas #edinburgtx #texasbirds #texasbirding #lagunaseca #lagunasecaranch #texaswildlife #sparkystensaas #thephotonaturalist #sparkyphotos
Smart, sassy and stunning…the Green Jay of Central and South America just makes it into south Texas. I am not usually a close-up-bird-portrait guy, but buttery background, and some fill-flash made the shot for me…and who can resist those “eyelashes”?! Laguna Seca Ranch, south Texas; January 2023 [Canon EOS R5 with Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM at 500mm; f/7.1 at 1/200 second; ISO 200; fill-flash with MagMod fresnel lens flash extender] #greenjay #texasbirds #texasbirding #lagunaseca #lagunasecaranch #texaswildlife #sparkystensaas #thephotonaturalist #sparkyphotos
You got this buddy. Harris’s Hawk with landing gear down.
