You can hear what’s coming next…the hollow CRACK of two Bighorn rams colliding…the sound echoing through the valley. At least that’s how I like to remember it. Unknown in Minnesota until settlers began farming in the 1800s, Greater Prairie-Chicken numbers peaked in the early 1900s with the bounty of crops. But they were over hunted for food (“tastes like chicken!”) and numbers plummeted. They are now booming again (pun intended) in NW Minnesota.
